Dr. Mallory Frayn, PhD, OPQ - Founder

Dr. Frayn is a specialist in the treatment of impulse-related concerns in Alberta and Quebec. From disordered eating to emotion dysregulation, she has consulted with clients seeking to better manage their emotions, urges, cravings, and other impulses. She obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology from McGill University, completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Drexel University, and is registered in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists and the Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec. In addition to founding Impulse Psychology, she is heavily involved in training the next generation of psychologists, working as a clinical supervisor. She served as an Assistant Professor (Professional) at McGill University during the 2023-24 academic year, and currently supervises Clinical Psychology students at the University of Calgary.

Throughout her training and clinical work to date, Dr. Frayn has seen impulse as a theme that stands between where her clients are and where they want to be. Working in the context of disordered eating and eating disorders, she has developed, tested, and implemented various interventions to manage urges and cravings and support her clients in developing healthier relationships with food. She completed her pre-doctoral internships with the MUHC’s Sex and Couple Therapy Clinic, as well as the Personality Disorders Clinic in Montreal. In these settings, she learned that managing the urge to act on emotions is the first step to understanding what feelings are, where they come from, and how to use them in a more adaptive way.

Dr. Frayn is a change-oriented therapist who knows that you have to do different to feel different. Managing impulse means understanding the function of why you have learned to cope in the way that you have in order to change your patterns moving forward. With Dr. Frayn, you play an active role in the therapeutic process and will be challenged to change the way that you relate to yourself, others, and the world around you.

If you are ready to make changes, contact Dr. Frayn for a complimentary 10-minute consultation.
